Salvaging Knits

Everyday Luxury Eek

Everyday Luxury Eek

According to my Ravelry notes I knit this project, Everyday Luxury designed by ‘Rag Lana’, in 2009 out of two shades of Rowan Kidsilk Haze.  I actually love this and it is blue black although I doubt you can tell from the photo.  All you can really tell from the photo is I made a mess on it.  Last post I showed you several projects as a backdrop to the lovely Midnight Tam by Sandy Blue.  You may have gathered that I am pulling out all my woollies and washing prior to frigid weather and way down there, in a bin at foot of closet, were my lacy shawls and too small for my children sweaters and extra special kid mohair type of scarves.  The not woolly woollies if you will.  And they are all covered with: nail polish and shattered glass.  An accident from earlier in the year where I knocked over a nail polish bottle off a shelf and I *thought* I had gathered all the items and cleaned them properly.  Most apparently not.  I hesitate to take my nail polish remover to the items since that bleached the not so precious cloth bags that were in bin over the knitted goods…. ( I use wire mesh bins ).  This particular piece, being mohair, is easier to fix than others since mohair fluff can be cut or pulled away a bit but my Highland Triangle Shawl knit out of long gone Sajama Alpaca in the loveliest blue and a regular winter comfort, and Inky-Dinky Spider Stole also look to need de-polishing.

I am feeling slightly gutted over here mainly because I so rarely keep my hand knits for myself.  Other than the tams, recently pictured, and the requisite number of socks to get me by between washings I honestly can say these are the bulk of what I have to show for almost 40 yrs of knitting.  I believe there is a pair of mittens and beaded cuffs in there as well.

On the knitting front I am working on my beloved’s annual Christmas socks although it is decidedly harder to sneak in the hours to do so this year. Work plus him being around me while I am not at work have combined to make finishing the pair difficult.  I hope to finish them this weekend. Next up a pair of arm warmers are in my mental queue and then another shawl…. maybe.  I am in need of a sweater more than a shawl unless the two mentioned above are hopelessly ruined.

Wild Thing

Hourglass Ribbed Socks

Many years ago I ‘met’ Lisa Souza of Lisa Souza Knitwear and Dyeworks through a yahoo group.  One of her colorways: Wild Things captured my attention and it was highlighted in a pattern by Judy Sumner called Hourglass Ribbed Socks.  The pattern was a simple knit purl affair available only in kit form and I couldn’t resist purchasing it.  I believe this was way back in 2007 so quite a while ago.  I fairly quickly balled up the hank and then it sat in my basket waiting my needles.  Fast forward to July when I was invited to a girls day crafting.  I found the pattern, the yarn was already wound, and I started knitting.  And stopped.  Come August I was invited to another girls day crafting but couldn’t find my pattern so took another project which was oddly dissatisfying.  I combed the house for my Hourglass Pattern and found it only to lose it while running about visiting Drs’ offices.

Hey guys Lisa Souza is a total gem.  The pattern is no longer available on her website, nor is it available on Ravelry, so I was quite upset.  Thankfully Lisa remembered my purchase and sent me out another copy.  The yarn is a delight.  The color way is less deep and dark than I expected but provided enough interest to keep my attention.  Honestly I am rather amazed by how much I wanted to see what little flash of color would appear next.  And the pattern itself was easy to follow, execute, memorize, and keep track of repeats etc.  I really love my new socks.

The above picture best shows the color and the following is to show stitch pattern but is slightly overexposed:

Easter Weekend Report

Easterknitting.jpg
Not much knitting this past weekend but a teensy bit. I got out of the habit of doing anything *sigh* Above you see the not so secret project and a sock made out of Cherry Tree Hill colorway Tropical Storm. I am using Michelle’s Basic Sock Pattern. I really wasn’t planning on showing you the design but I am rather pleased. What do you think? And since I am trying to make the little bit of knitting I did last week look like a lot here’s another picture of the sock which is more true to color-at least per my moniter:cherrytreehillsock.jpg

Have a great day you alls.

Stuff

WARNING WARNING WARNING tons of pictures today. None of the promised shawl. Plenty to cheer up my friend Liz{I hope} Ok this part may not be that cheery since its *my* yarn and not hers. Actually what I got in the mail yesterday. From Alchemy Yarns the oddments from my poncho, some extra oddments to play with, and some mohair for a cowl. Work cowl not me, me, me cowl. Still Liz claims to like orange so here is a sunny picture for her:alchemy yarns oddments.jpg
Next a pair of socks from many angles. Oh NO my pretties I did not knit these. They were a gift several years ago from my Step-mother. Now Marian’s mum was a spinner and weaver. Lotsa looms in her house. And world traveller as well. She gifted these socks to Marian who gifted them to me. They came only with the note that they came from her mum and that they were purchased in Mexico. Uh huh:

Did you notice the coarse kinda hairy yarn? The toe up and afterthought heel thingie? Here is another view:

And see how the knitter made slightly different motifs on the heel?

How about the slightly different use of color on leg?
