New Improved Yarn

Am I the only knitter that thinks that new to stash yarn is nicer than whatever is in stash? I hope not. Anyway here is the promised picture of my new improved yarns:

I realize it looks like nothing special esp when you take into account that I work with a lot of handpainted luxery yarns. Work being the operative word. We have a cone of 12,000 yards of laceweight Polwarth which my friend Sam assured me was a to die for fiber. We also have a cone of navy sportweight merino @2700 yds which one hopes is more than enough to make me something cutie patootie. And then some cotton which, believe it or not, is too fine for me. I purchased it to make Princess Shawl which I am not likeing in white and this particular cotton is about half the grist of #70 crochet cotton. We have about 6000 yds of that to play with. I will probably double or quadrupel it and make a tank or something. It will end up aging in the stash for quite some time while I think about big ol tablecloth//shawl vs garment.

I’ve noticed an alarming trend in the gray knitting. I never used to knit with gray but these past few months its what I am drawn towards. Maybe I am in a funk? My husband thinks I am in a funk. I am thinking purples, blues, and gray with the splash of white or green or berry colors will be my wardrobe colors which I guess is a step up from black, black, and black with black or black for contrast. Still gray just strikes me as a dreary color. I really do wonder why I am knitting it so much lately. Oh nevermind.

A yarny day and knitterly evening to you… toodles!

Gifted

Friday I kept checking my mail for pkgs before I finally gave up and blogged about my mitts. I was expecting a package from my SP and just knew it would be better than my frivolite[insert accent marks in your mind I still don’t know how to] Imagine my surprise to find 2 packages of goodies. The fabulous Ma Hatfield ROAK-ed me with these goodies:

Retail Therapy

Ahhhhhhh I am so stressed I am shopping. Careful blog readers will note that the last time I shopped was way back in spring. I purchased a whopping 2 hanks of koigu for socks and then some birthday money stuff and Maryland stuff. Its not that I don’t want yarn in the summer its just that I try not to buy any at all ;^} Oh wait I purchased some shetland yarn too. Either way hardly any yarn purchases over here so far this year. But Tuesday I broke down and got a shawl kit and pattern. I really really wanted to go whole hog with these: Spring ShawlGrey Shawl, or SSC but figured the first two would require yarn to please me and the last was too too expensive at the moment. Did you notice that Heirloom Knitting is back in print? SSC costs more.

The retail therapy did not stop on Tuesday but spilled out onto Wednesday as well. Actually Thursday since Amber did not post til after 1 am this morning about The Knitting Tarot store being open. I ordered two packs of the Bowling Sheep Cards and am saving my pennies for a T-shirt and Tote. They also have some kewl goth-y cards but its getting nippy and I am also shopping for kids winter gear. My first impulse buy-made between the note from Amber saying the store was open and her removing the PW protection[apparently I tried to order in the 3 seconds it took to send the note and actually open…kinda like turning the open sign over in a shop window on way to unlocking the door]- was made at a new to me shop. It must be the Wal of France judging by the prices but too cute. They have grownup clothing and plus size clothing as well but in a different catalogue. OK I have the sneaking suspicion I purchased something else during the past few days but I cannot remember. Thats what happens when you shop between midnight and 3am…..

Even *More* New Yarn

Two blogworthy pieces of mail aka not bills or junk circulars–woohoo! ummm wait I need a friend that writes letters oh well…. First part of the yarn I purchased with my b-day monies. You remember the cashiola I specifically asked for to purchase yarn? I vote it doesn’t break LINT since its like a gift certificate at the great www.virtualyarnshopwhereveryoucanfindit. A kit to make Joan Schroader’s Cats Day Shawl in Indigo Sajama Alpaca. Now discontinued so if you come accross masses of it in purple and are feeling flush think of me. Then 4pm a knock on the door. Who could it possibly be? The FedEx guy shows up at 9 am, UPS around 11 am, USPS around noon. Nobody knocks on my door at 4 pm. It was a second delivery from USPS:

That, my friends, is from Canada. Kinda unexpected. Part of the Fibertraditions Magic Box. Its basically a stash redistribution box which is going around on several groups. I seeded 5 boxes and sent them off and the Canadian participants, having no way of knowing where their zone’s box would be once customs and border patrol had their way, just sent it directly to me. Plus we figured those peskety customs and border patrolees might add duties or some such in addition to the long assed time it would take to travel. So I knew it was coming I was just surprised. I immediately picked out some white single ply lace to fingering weight wool. Kinda scratchy, kinda hairly but white lace to fingering. A mystery yarn that reminds me of icelandic laceweight from Schoolhouse Press. My daughters are being insistent on some Pingouin Mohair et Soie in baby pink. I am thinking about that one too but don’t want to be greedy. We shall see what happens when the next major box hits me since its my plan to distribute the Canadian’s offerings amongst the main boxes. Anyway here’s the gratuitous yarn shot:Image16.jpg
Til tomorrow guys have a great yarny day!
